It's kind of a stupid argument, but I'm afraid that if MLB starts allowing instant replay for home run calls, then allowing it for other calls will soon follow. Then, before you know it, we'll have Major League umpires peering into curtained booths just as much as referees in the NFL. To me, that's not a good thing for baseball. What I love about baseball is its acceptance of the human element in officiating. What often annoys me about the NFL is its futile struggle to try and eliminate that human element of officiating as much as possible.

this is really all I can say about sports...

I don't think this is a stupid argument at all. I totally agree with you.
There's also the fact that people watching the game at home can see the instant replays and still get into a set-to about what happened. The existence of video doesn't mean everything's clear-cut.
Peter: awesome.
kg: I try to avoid the "slippery slope" fallacy whenever possible, but I can't help myself when it comes to important things like baseball.
ben: I totally agree, which is why the NFL's use of instant replay only sets forth to mitigate the human element rather than actually accomplishing it. Even with video, judgment calls as to whether the receiver "possessed" the football remain pretty subjective (and they always will).
Taller foul poles with a wider net on the foul side is all I want to see. As far as those calls where the ball was above or below a stripe, that is just a fucking stupid way to build a stadium. Home run should just mean any ball that was fair that went over the fence. Who cares where it hit. Especially since I think the number one cause of home run confusion besides being foul or not is whether it went out before it hit a fucking Arby's poster. Hell, I bet the average fan would pay like a nickel more a game so that the owners of these stadiums could "afford" to take down just one row of billboards. Talk to me Mozeliak. I got ideas.
