As I write this, Barry Bonds has already tied Hank Aaron's record, and likely will get another at-bat tonight to try and break it. Outside of the Bay Area, Bonds hasn't exactly ... um ... endeared himself to the fans. So, in observance of Bonds' tying and eventual breaking of the all-time home run record, here are a couple of videos of more endearing all-time home run kings of yore.
First, a two-fer. Sadaharu Oh, the all-time professional record-holder with 838, faces Hank Aaron in a home run derby exhibition in Japan. The exhibition here was filmed in 1984. Aaron and Oh had been retired for 8 and 4 years respectively, but both players could still hit them out of the park.
Second, here's a comedy classic. You simply can't go wrong with a plot involving Babe Ruth and sorority girls.
The Babe Ruth clip comes via the excellent Southpaw blog.
