Into the White
Did you hear what I said?
Did you hear what I said?
Deeper than your sleepy head
Deeper than your sleepy head
My best friend during my junior high years had an older brother. His older brother was in high school, was much cooler than me or my friend, and naturally listened to cooler music. We'd always borrow his records, tapes and (eventually) CDs in order to hear what was cool (thus hopefully making us cool).
This cooler older brother listened to a lot of Pixies. I'm sure that Surfer Rosa's cover art first piqued my interest, but listening to the music for the first time was an experience close to an epiphany. My tiny Top 40 musical universe suddenly had expanded. Thanks to the Pixies, and thanks to cooler older brother's extensive James Brown collection, I discovered that music had possibilities beyond, well, this.
16 years ago today, the Pixies played a show at Brixton Academy in London, England. You can find most of the show on Youtube. This song's pretty good for starters ...

Into the White, a great, great song only found on a Pixie CD single. When the Pixies played the Fox Theatre (St. Louis) back in 88 or 89 (opening for Love and Rockets) they ended their set with this song and it still gives me goosebumps when I think of it.
